Barry's Life Story

Barry Lee Vetterick, the son of Melvin Lee and Virginia Louise (Bannister) Vetterick, was born on September 4, 1952.  Barry graduated from Orient-Macksburg Community High School with the Class of 1971.  He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he was stationed in Korea.  Following the service he earned his Aircraft and Power Plant (AP) Degree at Spartan Aeronautics in Topeka, Kansas.  He worked for Des Moines Flying Services (later Signature Services) until his retirement in 2009.  He then worked for five years as a bus driver for the Norwalk Community School District.

Barry married the love of his life, Wanda Louise Sheriff, on October 4, 1980 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, Iowa.  To this union they had two sons, Shawn and Christopher.  Together they made their home in Norwalk where they are members of the New Life Lutheran Church.

Barry was a member of the Williamson American Legion Post 719.  He was an avid hunter of deer, turkey, and pheasant.  Barry, with his wife Wanda, enjoyed competition muzzle-loader shooting and enjoying life camping in their RV.  He occasionally enjoyed fishing with his family in Canada.

On Tuesday morning, June 20, 2017 Barry died peacefully under the care of Veteran’s Hospice in Des Moines.  He lived 64 years, 9 months, and 16 days.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister in infancy, Carol Louise, in 1960.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Norwalk; two sons, Shawn (Athena) and their daughter, Harmony, of Royal City, WA, and Christopher (Denae) and their children, Tytus and Aayla, of Norwalk; a sister, Patty (Roger) Roberts of Afton, Iowa; and a host of nieces, nephews, and good friends.
