Carmen's Life Story

Carmen Sue was born October 24, 1968 in Landstuhl, Germany to Jeffrey and Bo (Lee) Fisher. The family moved around frequently due to her father being in the military. Through it all she had her older sister Stephanie.  She was a precocious child, very much a tom-boy and she was very loving of her family. She was outgoing and made friends easily.

After completing high school she pursued a career in the Air Force. She completed boot camp in Lackland AFB, Texas. After boot camp, she transferred to Wichita Falls, TX where she met her future husband Craige VanZuuk. They worked sod detail together and quickly formed a tight bond over the following months, taking breaks together and spending all the time they could together. They were stationed in separate bases they worked to maintain a long distance relationship until they were reunited once again in Germany. She left the military and moved to Norwalk to join Craige in marriage in 1996. They loved each other deeply and truly, they built a life in Norwalk and started a family with two daughters, Jessica and Stephanie.

Carmen worked at Yellow Freight for 20 years as a customer service representative, but family was her life. Sadly, she contracted breast cancer in 2013. She courageously battled cancer for the remainder of her life.

Carmen passed away at Methodist Hospital on June 13, 2017, surrounded by family.  She lived 48 years, 7 months, and 21 days.  She is survived by her husband Craige; daughters Jessica and Stephanie; her mother Bo; her sister Stephanie (Tim) Riggs; her father and mother in-law Bill and Danene VanZuuk; sister-in-law Gayle VanZuuk; brother-in-law Shane VanZuuk; and a host of nieces and nephews.
