Larry's Life Story

Larry, the son William Malcolm and Sarah Yvonne (Perry) Snead, was born on July 14, 1938 in Mammoth, West Virginia.  He graduated from East Bank High School with the Class of 1957.  Upon graduation he enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served his country honorably until 1960.  Larry met his soon to be wife, Iris Jewell Browning, at his sister’s home in 1959.  They were married on December 16, 1960.  To this union they were blessed with two children, Cheri and Billy.

Larry and Iris made their home in Mile Branch, WV.  In 1963 they moved to Elkhart, Indiana where he worked as an electrician for a Don A. Belle and later at Holiday Rambler (a RV company), retiring in 1998.  Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  Larry and Iris were members of Highland Park Baptist Church, in Elkhart for over 40 years, before their relocation to Prairie City, Iowa to be near their family.

On Friday evening, June 23, 2017, Larry died peacefully surrounded by his family at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheri Englebrecht on April 11, 2015; his parents; and three sisters, Patricia Craigo Claudette Chadwell, Betty Dunlap.

Larry is survived by his wife, Iris of Prairie City; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Jan Snead of Altoona; a son-in-law, David Englebrecht (Ann); four grandchildren, Nate (Kelsey), Jeremy (Claire), Patsy, and Sara (Ryan); and three great-grandchildren, Sammy, Tucker, and Jackson.
