Rose Cecilla Patterson, 97, of Norwalk, passed away Friday evening, November 17, 2017.  She would have been 98 years old on Christmas Eve.  She was a devout Catholic and member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church of Norwalk.

Rose was born and raised in a small Irish pioneer farming community near Jamaica, Iowa, known as “Little Ireland.”  She was one of seven brothers and seven sisters and had fond memories of growing-up with dirt floors, oil lanterns, and going to church.

Rose was an extraordinary Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend.  She was loved dearly by family, friends and neighbors.  Family was her pride and joy.  She was a loving and supportive role model and touched many lives.  She believed in sacrifice, helping others, and was incredibly patient.  She enjoyed sending and receiving cards and letters and did so often.  She also enjoyed quilting with friends from church.  She loved gladiolas, lilacs, and the song “Red River Valley.”

Against scrutiny, she managed to raise three boys and run the farm after her husband passed away in 1956.  She later retired from Iowa Paint in Des Moines.  She never traveled far from the farm and appreciated the simple things in life.

Rose is survived by two sons, Gary Patterson of Norwalk, and Raymond Patterson of Osceola, and a daughter-in-law Sharon Patterson of Texas.  Five grandchildren: Terri (Alan) Fitzgerald, Shawnda (Salvador) Macias, Angela Patterson, Rachel (Corey) Rose, and Rebecca (Matthew) Bowlin.  Five Great-Grandchildren: Daniel Fitzgerald, Tyler Rose, Bianca Garcia, Vivianna Garcia, Isabella Garcia, and a great-great granddaughter Raelynn Bernal, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband Mike Patterson (1956) and a son, John Patterson (2008).
