Samantha Lee Fredregill, age 21, entered into rest Saturday afternoon from complications of pneumonia, May 6, 2017 at Unity Point Hospital in Des Moines.  She was surrounded by her family, caregivers, and friends.  She is the daughter of James E. and Cheray M. (Schuster) Fredregill of Cumming, Iowa.

Samantha suffered a significant setback prior to her first birthday that would affect the rest of her life.  She required extensive care and a team of caregivers to keep her healthy over the last 20 years.  The doctors and nurses were many and she touched the lives of all she met.  The disabilities were extensive but she was still able to remain home because of the wonderful care.  She was even able to attend school which opened her life to countless students who came to know and love her.

She moved from West Des Moines to her home in Cumming, Iowa September of 1999. She attended the Norwalk Schools and was set to graduate high school this May.  During her school days, she loved going to join the choir and band students while they practiced.  Sammie loved being treated as a princess in school accompanied by her nurse, Sheri Erickson, who has been by her side for the last 14 yrs of her life.  Sammie was given many birthday parties, even a tea party, and joined in many great field trips around the Des Moines area.  Mrs. Weidmann's Peer PE class gave her much social time with lots of kids her own age.  Sammie loved all the attention.  Mrs. Lester's class has seen Sammie grow into a beautiful young woman during her time in the high school classroom.

She was a member of Harvest Church in Cumming.  She lived at home with her parents, Jim and Cheray, siblings; Alex (17), Jen (12) and Liz (12).  She had several pets, too.  She especially enjoyed her Siamese cat, Sadie, who always slept on her lap and rode on her wheelchair with her.

She has always had a fighter attitude.  Never gave up and just kept going.  She made all the crazy things in the world seem so small and insignificant.  She had an unconditional love to give all those who came into her life.  If you met her, you just fell in love with her.  There's never going to be another like her.  She is a special, unique little lady who will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

She will be greatly missed also by her grandparents, James and Julie Fredregill of Urbandale, IA and Joseph and Mary Schuster of Callender, IA; her great-grandmothers, Harriett Fredregill and Ione Schuster; Uncle Scott and Aunt Becca Schuster of Callender, IA; Aunt Michele and Uncle Dave Danielson, Urbandale, IA; and Aunt Denise Fredregill of West Des Moines, IA; and many cousins.  She was preceded in death by her older brother, James Joseph Fredregill on August 26, 2016 and cousin, Orrin A. Schuster.

A Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10th with Funeral Services to be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11th at O’Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Cumming.   Memorials to Camp Sunnyside or the donor's choice will be accepted.
