Susan Spieker born and lived in Norwalk her entire life. She was born the oldest child of three to Martin and Eva (DeVoe) Woodford. As she grew up she developed a love for nature. She was an avid birder and became a member of the Iowa Ornithologist Union. Growing up the family would go on camping trips together and foster their love for nature and each other.

She was independent, adventurous, and bold and willing to do things on her own. She would often go out fishing, geocaching, and birdwatching on her own. She took interest in a number of crafts and always sought to learn more.

In the early 70’s she met her husband Jerry Spieker at the Val Air Ballroom. They fell in love and were married in 1975, and have been married ever since. They worked hard through their lives. Susan would often work long, dedicated hours for the Norwalk Public School system. She was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Norwalk.

After she retired she would travel with family and friends to see the natural wonders of the country. She had a strong positive character, she cared for others in her family and supported them in any way she could. Susan was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Susan is survived by her husband Jerry Spieker; her sister Kathy (George) Champ; her brother Randy Woodford; her two children Lance (Jessica) Spieker, and Kent Spieker; two grandchildren Shelby and Kaylyn; and her great-grandchild Eva. Susan was preceded in death by her parents.
