Chuck's Life Story

Charles Douglas Guidicessi, the son of Charles Dominic and Louise Virginia (Cosenza) Guidicessi, was born on May 11, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa.  Growing up on the south side of Des Moines he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1953.  Chuck enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country honorably from April 1955 to April 1958.  Chuck worked for over 25 years at 3E (Electrical, Engineering and Equipment) retiring as a warehouse manager.

Chuck met his future bride, Frani Little Simpson in 1973.  They were later married on December 22, 1984.  Chuck and Frani made their home on the Des Moines south side.  Together they enjoyed going to the horse races, traveling to Omaha and Lincoln, NE prior to Prairie Meadows opening.

Chuck, an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, was a water fowl enthusiast.  Every year he would save up his three weeks of vacation and go duck hunting with his friends at Lake Rathbun.  He continued to hunt both ducks and geese, up until this past year.  He was charter member of the Southside Ducks Unlimited Chapter.  He was instrumental in organizing their spring dinners where they raised more money for than most other Duck Unlimited Chapters throughout the country.

He was a proud and loving grandfather, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He was affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren and all of their friends, often spending quality time with each of them.

Chuck died Thursday morning, October 18, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines from heart failure.  He lived 83 years, 5 months, and 7 days.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Frani of Des Moines; his sons, Bill (Diane) Simpson, Mike (Cindy) Simpson, Jeff (Lora) Simpson and Jay (Regan) Simpson; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Chad, Chase, Kyle, Olivia, Chris, and Hudson; and a great-granddaughter, Kensington.
