During my 69 years, there were no banner headlines, but my recognition came in many ways. I spent most of my life loving my family and making a difference in the lives of others by being a dedicated nurse for 43 years.

I was born on March 3rd, 1948 to Gary and Edith Koerselman in Sheldon, Iowa. I was brought up in a devout Christian home and can never remember a time I did not love the Lord.

I attended the Sheldon Public School and graduated from high school in 1966. In school I sang in the choir, was a National Honor Society member, catcher for the softball team and active in my church and Girl Scouts. I was employed as an aide at the local hospital and a car hop at A&W Drive In.

After graduation I attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines. Following graduation I was employed at Iowa Lutheran Hospital for 39 years. For 12 years I worked medical-surgical floors and then spent the rest of my time in the maternity center.

In 2009 I had the honor of employment at Methodist West Maternity and floated to Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

In high school I met Galen Veen on a boat ride at Arnolds Park, while we were attending bible camp. We became sweethearts and married June 6th, 1970. He is the love of my life, best friend and hero. God blessed our marriage with two wonderful children. Misty Dawn in December of 1975, followed by Cory John in June of 1983.

My greatest joy in life was my loving husband, cherished family, relatives and friends that the Lord blessed me with. I enjoyed writing poetry, reading books, and spending time at our lake home.

I went to meet my heavenly Father on Thursday July 27, 2017 surrounded by loved ones after battling pancreatic cancer. Preceding me in death were my parents.

I leave a devoted husband, Galen; two children and their spouses, Misty and Frank Reznik and Cory and Tiffani Veen; five grandchildren, Hannah, Halie, and Noah Reznik, Ella and Leah Veen; my sister Edie, her husband Mike and two children Kristle and Ethan; a sister-in-law and her husband Gene and Dee Eilers and their children and families; Tana and Darryl Harlan and Kyle and Staci Eilers; and many close friends and relatives. I know someday we will all be reunited in heaven.

The greatest give you can give to me is to live your life fully in my place, always trusting in the Lord.
