James Cowles, age 57, passed Sunday night, December 15, 2019 in Des Moines following a hospitalization at MercyOne Medical Center.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 20th at O'Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk. Burial will take place in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Immediately after burial the family would like you to join them for a luncheon at District Downtown Des Moines.

James' Life Story
James Warren Cowles was raised in West Des Moines and attended Valley High School. After High School, Jim attended DMACC attaining his Associates Degree in Business. Throughout Jim's life he worked various jobs ranging from driving semi trucks to construction work. Most recently, Jim worked as a bouncer at various downtown establishments for the Smithson's, and well known as "Candy Man".
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved being outdoors, football, and classic cars. He brought laughter and joy to every room and took pride in his relationships with others. He was always willing to help anyone he could, even if he couldn’t. Whether he was your friend, co-worker or acquaintance, he left an impression and one hell of a story!
Jim is survived by his three children; Marilyn (James) Kennedy, James “Ronnie” (Alicia) Cowles, and Sharlet (Michael) Pepper. Jim was the proud grandfather to ten grandchildren; Shayne “Shayner-mc-nannerman”, Aydrianna, Olyvia, Vyncent “Vinny” (Parents Marilyn and James); Makenzie, Brayden, Ashlyn, and Bryce (Parents Ronnie and Alicia); Justin and Emily (Parents Sharlet and Michael).
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Barbara (Growth) Cowles, sister Ann Smith, and his son James Warren Cowles Jr.
