M. Edwin Mason

June 23, 1938 ~ October 12, 2018 (age 80)

Maurice "Edwin" Mason, age 80, of Des Moines (a former long-time resident of Marshalltown) died peacefully Friday evening, October 12, 2018 at Norwalk Rehabilitation where he resided these past several months.

Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Gathering to be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 18th at Mowry Irvine Mansion in Marshalltown.  For driving directions please click the "service details" tab above.

O'Leary Funeral & Cremation Services - Celebration of Life Center in Norwalk has been entrusted to care for Ed's family. 

Edwin, the son of Clarence A. and Lois L. (nee: Banghart) Mason, was born on June 23, 1938 on his parent’s farm near Bangor, Iowa.  He attended school in Albion, Iowa where he met, Sandra Gayle Mc Leland.  They were married on November 30, 1958, and had two children Scott and Amy.

Ed and Sandra farmed near Albion and later moved to the Marshalltown area in 1968.  Ed also worked as a truck driver; traveling all over the Midwest and southern parts Canada. Following his retirement Ed was active in the Mid-Iowa Antique Power Association. Ed was a very humble man with a great sense of humor, he had a love for farming and raising his livestock, always with a faithful German Shepard by his side.

He is survived by his former wife and long-time companion, Sandra of Des Moines; his son, Scott Mason of Des Moines; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tim Rowell of Santa Monica, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Janet Mason of Albion; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
