Marecella V. Potthoff, age 93, of Norwalk, died peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Gary Linnevold, at her side Saturday morning, July 20, 2019 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Her celebration of life memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 29th at O'Leary Funeral & Cremation Services in Norwalk. Pastor Eugene Krueger will be officiating services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa at a later date.
Immediately following services family and friends are invited to a luncheon to be held in the O'Leary Banquet Room. Memorial contributions, to be designated at a later date and directed toward her daughter, Patsy Linnevold, will be accepted.

Marcella's Life Story
Marcella Vila (DeNeui) Potthoff, of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Regency Care Center. She was 93 years of age. Her daughter Patsy and Gary (son-in-law) were at her bedside.
Marcella was born on March 12, 1926 to Albertus and Hulda (Schmidt) DeNeui in Clay Township of Hardin County, Iowa. Marcella spent her early years on the family farm. She attended the country school for her education. Later she moved to Lakota, Iowa to live with her sister, Johanna, and Johanna’s husband, Elso Jansen. It was there she met her husband, Raymond Potthoff, a neighbor of the Jansen’s. They were wed on October 20, 1945 at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. They were blessed with one child, Patsy Rae.
Soon after they were married they moved to Eldora. In 1952 they moved to Jesup, Iowa where they resided until 2003. Marcella was a homemaker throughout her life. Ray and Marcella would often be found camping, doing crafts, jigsaw puzzles, search-a-word, and gardening.
For health reasons they moved to Waterloo, Iowa; and later Indianola, Iowa. While in Indianola, she received a Good Samaritan’s Volunteer of the Year Award for her help at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Marcella then chose to live closer to her daughter in Des Moines, Iowa. Marcella’s health issues required her to then reside at Regency Health Care in Norwalk, Iowa.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Gary) Linnevold.of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Murray (Khrista) Linnevold of Portage, Wisconsin; and Nichole (Kevin) Borchardt of Bradenton, Florida. See is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many friends and the Linnevold family.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond (Ray) in 2005; her parents, Albertus (Bertus) and Hulda (Schmidt) DeNeui; brothers, Allie (Norvina) DeNeui and Alvin DeNeui; and sisters, Louise (Arend) Miller, Julia (Hank) Gelder, and Johanna (Elso) Jansen. Also preceding her in death were her in laws, Gustav and Helen Potthoff; Sisters in law and brothers in law, Vern and Ardella Potthoff, Duane and Viola Metzger., Les and Helen Swartz; and 2 nephews, Gary Schwartz and Darwin Metzger
