Melton "Wayne" McGhee, Jr.

May 12, 1951 ~ July 18, 2018 (age 67)

Melton “Wayne” McGhee, Jr. age 67, a resident of Norwalk since 2012 moving there from Richardson, TX died Wednesday morning, July 18, 2018 at his home.

Wayne was born on May 12, 1951 in Dallas, TX.  The oldest child of Melton Wayne McGhee, Sr. and Betty Marie Letvick McGhee, Wayne was raised and attended school in Dallas.  He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Vietnam Conflict.  Following the war he returned to Dallas where he worked for himself as a paint contractor specializing in commercial and residential construction. 

Wayne met Lori Jean Vote in 1989 and they were married on June 30, 1990.  Together they made their home in Richardson, TX where Lori worked as a Registered Nurse and Wayne continued his painting business.  They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.  Wayne liked to golf and fish.  Occasionally Wayne would travel to Corpus Christi, TX and deep sea fish.  Yearly, Wayne, along with his cousin Kelly and friend Norman, took a guy’s trip Las Vegas to gamble.

After retirement Wayne and Lori moved to Norwalk to be near Lori’s family.  They enjoyed supporting their nephews, Steven, Brian, Jacob and Aaron, by attending their school activities.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lori of Norwalk; a cousin, Kelly Houchins of Lancaster, TX; his father and mother-in-law, Bud and Joan Vote of Sac City, IA; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Kathy and Roger Hart of Norwalk, IA and Linda and Jeff Peterson of Leawood, KS; a brother and sister-in-law, Curt and Sara Vote of Clive, IA; and three nephews, Jacob and Aaron Peterson and Brian Hart.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Deborah McGhee Prince and Angela McGhee; his mother-in-law, Joanne Vote; and a nephew, Steven Hart.
