Nathan Sesker (37 of Norwalk, IA) was an intensely intelligent man with a saucy quick wit, some serious dance moves (at least he thought so), and a gentle soul.  He always tried to do the right thing, was focused on helping others, and was a very loyal friend.  Nate highly valued family and gathered many happy memories during his lifetime including family vacations (particularly to Colorado, Yellowstone, and Spokane, WA), dance competitions with his children Aydin Sesker (14) and Kaia Sesker (9) and his nieces and nephews, and countless hours spent in the pool, playing games, sharing his love of soccer with his kids, and surrounded by as many animals as possible.

Nate had a passion for cooking and sharing it with others. From hosting a houseful of neighborhood kids to weekly dinners with extended family, he was always ready with a delicious menu and invite often working in the past with his “sous chef” and wife of 13 years, Veronica (Ward) (Ankeny, IA).  Dang we’ll miss his gravy.

After graduating from Norwalk High School (1998) and the University of Northern Iowa (BA, Chemistry, 2002) he spent most of his career in large-scale food manufacturing in Kansas City.  He was proud of his work and rightfully so.  With a talent for process design and meticulous attention to detail he was the perfect fit for his management role in the quality and cleanliness functions of food processing.  Quite frankly, we don’t trust eating those products since he left save for the well-trained team he left behind.

Although his diagnosis of colorectal cancer in 2014 brought on many challenges it also provided the opportunity to meet his goal of returning to Iowa to be closer to family.  Once back, Nate focused his energy on volunteering at the Marion County Senior Nutrition Center and found many new friends while sharing his passion for quality food.  That same drive for quality ingredients provided the inspiration to start working on a family dream project – a micro-scale organic family “farm”.  After helping to find land, he worked to start buffer zones and prepare planting beds.  His vision will live on in Mint ‘N More Farms, so named using the initials of Nate and his sisters (and co-conspirators) Mikol Sesker (Henderson, NV) and Megan Sesker-Enriquez (Spokane, WA).

Nate endured paralysis of his lower body during his final months, but was surrounded by the love of family throughout.  His devoted and proud parents, David & Jane Sesker (Norwalk, IA) were dedicated caregivers along with the help of his best friend (his words) and sister Mikol.  Support was provided by HCI Hospice Care Services (Knoxville, IA team) including his aide and dear friend Luann who is truly an angel on earth.  Nate is now free from the paralysis and likely already practicing his dance moves for when we are all together again.

In loving memory of Nathan David Sesker (1979 – 2017).
