Ronald DePriest, age 79, of Norwalk. His visitation with family and friends will be held at O’Leary Funeral and Cremation Services in Norwalk Friday, November 1st from 5 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of life service will be Saturday, November 2nd at 11 a.m. at O’Leary’s with a luncheon in the community room immediately following.

Ronald's Life Story
Ronald Earl DePriest the son of Edward Earl and Bessie Marcella (Phillips) DePriest was born on Saturday, February 3, 1940 in Stanberry, Missouri. He attended Stanberry High School graduating with the class of 1958. In school, he enjoyed playing sports including football and basketball; and playing the trumpet in high school band. Following school, he worked with his father and later worked for a Stanberry Cap Factory. During this time, Ron met his future wife, Carolyn Wilson, at his sister’s wedding to Carolyn’s cousin; a year later they were married on June 24, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Conception Jct, Missouri. To this union they had three children; Rhonda, Rodney, and Beth.
Ron and Carolyn made their home in Conception Jct. during their first eight years where he started his career working for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. His job transferred him to the Des Moines area in 1969 and they made their home in Norwalk. Ron worked as an engineer for 38 years, retiring as a Lead Engineer for Union Pacific Railroad.
Ron enjoyed turkey, deer and pheasant hunting. He also enjoyed fishing locally in the area rivers and ponds. Ron and his son enjoyed their deer and turkey hunting trips to Kansas. He also enjoyed playing penny slots with his wife and daughters. As a family they enjoyed attending Missouri Tiger’s Football, where they held season tickets; and they attended St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games. A couple of times Ron and Carolyn had the opportunity to attend a Green Bay Packers football game.
Ronald passed Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at MercyOne Downtown Des Moines, IA. He lived 79 years, 8 months, and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Harris; his father-in-law, Melvin Wilson; and brother-in-law, Darrel Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three children, Rhonda DePriest (Joe Phipps) of Des Moines, Rodney (Lisa) DePriest of Hannibal, Missouri, and Beth DePriest of Norwalk; his mother-in-law, Victorine Wilson of Norwalk; a brother-in-law, David (Vickie) Wilson of Ogden, Iowa; and a host of other family and friends.
