Betty's Life Story
Betty Lou, born to Truman and Ruby (Young) Jones on Monday, October 19, 1953 in New Virginia was the fifth child born to the couple. She grew up on the family farm and attended New Virginia schools, graduating with the class of 1971 from Interstate 35 High School in Truro.
She met Darrell Hurley, her first love, and they wed. Darrell and Betty had a deep love for one another and to their union, had three children, Lutricia, Chad and Becky. Both, Darrell and Betty would proudly proclaim the kids were their world. They were so happy. Darrell passed in an accident leaving Betty to raise the kids on her own. She made it look easy because her love for them came first.
Betty had a deep love for family and made sure her kids saw their grandparents and extended family making sure her children got to know their relatives. She took them to family gatherings and picnics. She taught them simple things, like her love of baking and encouraged her kids to pursue their many talents.
She was a private person and never complained about her health problems. Betty was dedicated to and rarely ever missed work but looked forward to retirement to spend quality time with her family. She worked for the State of Iowa starting at the Department of Transportation in July 1981 and retired from the Department of Revenue, October 2016. She became best of friends with her coworkers and was a wonderful friend to all that knew her. She cherished her friendships and had special friends she kept from her high school years even.
Betty felt blessed when Chad married Liza. Liza made a wonderful new addition to their family. Her grandkids brought joy to her heart and she cherished each one: Levi, Logan, Lucas, Libby, Jocelyn, Sylestial (Sissy) and Deuce. The grandkids many talents and school activities gave Betty plenty of joy. Each grandkid had a special place in her heart that will remain for eternity. Luke and Taya blessed her with two beautiful great grandchildren, Leland and Finley. Betty was a special person, a role model for her kids and grandkids.
Betty met Gary and they wed, making Betty’s heart full again. Gary and Betty shared the everyday little things in life with each other. Someone to share everyday experiences with.
Her favorite love was her relationship with God. She shared that love with her family and friends. She wanted to make sure He was a part of their life. No matter what lifes hurtles throw your way, you have God to turn to in your time of need.
