Daniel Elwood Abbott, age 77, of Casey, Iowa died in the comfort of his home with his life-partner, Sharon Caldwell at his side.

The family has selected a direct cremation with a military graveside service to be held on Friday, September 24th.  More information will be posted on this webpage as information becomes available.

Daniel Elwood Abbott was born in Eldorado Springs, Missouri to Wilma (Alexander) and Ernest Abbott on September 9, 1943.  In 1953 they moved near Menlo and in 1957 they moved to Casey where he continued to live. He graduated from Casey High School and then entered the Air Force where he served four years as a B12 mechanic in Guam.

He returned to Iowa following his time in the Air Force and he married Kathy Wall 1968.  Dan and Kathy had two daughters, Roxanne and Renae.  Dan worked at Firestone for 30+ years as a tire builder. 

Dan and Kathy were divorced, and he married Kay Miller who died in 2000.  Dan met his life partner, Sharon Caldwell, in 2000 and they were together for 21 years.  Together they raised teenagers, survived proms and school events, welcomed grandchildren, enjoyed traveling by car and on bus trips, raised goats, horses, and mules.  They had rabbits, chickens and numerous other animals.   Sharon introduced Dan to cruising and he loved taking cruises.  He was a loving dad and grandpa and enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s events. 

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Adam Hershberger.

Dan is survived by his life partner, Sharon Caldwell, daughters Roxanne (Monte) Stoleson and Renae Abbott; Sharon’s children Jake Jones, Kevin l(Joyce) Jones, Brian (Stacy) Jones, Melissa England and Eric (Amy) Caldwell; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
