David Cackler’s Life Story

David Dwayne Cackler, born January 9, 1946, the eldest child of Wayne Herbert and Donna Mae Cully Cackler, passed in his sleep the morning of September 20, 2020.

He was born in Chariton and attended Chariton High School where he graduated high school in 1964. From there he worked at a local dairy and other odd jobs until settling into a life-time career as an automotive technician with Sears and Benson Buick among others, achieving Master Technician.

On September 1, 2007, he married Lynette Hanner and the two enjoyed 13 years of marriage together. He retired in 2008 and then drove the shuttle van for Bob Brown for another 8 years before moving to western Iowa for a couple of years. He then moved to Indianola in 2018 where he lived until his passing.

David had many interests during his life that he shared with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports, especially Iowa Hawkeye and Dallas Cowboys football, a love he shared with his son. He also enjoyed auto racing, NASCAR Cup racing in particular. He loved to watch his grandsons play with his die cast car collections. He enjoyed fishing with Lynette and his grandson. One of his favorite memories was a trip to the Smoky Mountains and the NASCAR Hall of Fame with Lynette. He also enjoyed visiting Presidential Libraries which he had visited several. He loved a good western, good fried chicken and he never backed down from a fight.

David was a simple man who loved his family greatly. He always wanted what was best for those whom he loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wayne & Donna, his sister, Marilyn, mother-in-law Bonnie and brother-in-law Donald.

He is survived by his wife Lynette, son Thomas (Julie), and daughter Terri; his grandsons Joseph, Lucas, and George, who were his pride and joy; his sisters-in-law Dorothy and Teri (Jerry) and his brothers-in-law Larry, Chris (Mary Beth), and Scott (Michelle).
