Fred “Gil” Gilbert Mote, 89, died Friday, December 27, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Per Gil’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date at Glendale Masonic Cemetery.
Those wishing to pay respects may do so at O’Leary Funeral & Cremation Services, 1020 Main Street, Norwalk from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, January 11th, 2020.

Gil's Life Story
Gil was born August 11th, 1930 to Frederick G. and Mary R. (Trevillan) Mote in Des Moines. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949 and worked for Don’s Grocery till 1952. Gil then worked for Braniff International Airways in Kansas City and Des Moines, attaining the position of Station Agent in Des Moines. When Braniff went bankrupt in 1982, he worked as a travel agent at the Travel Center on Fleur Drive until 2000 when he retired.
Gil was a member of Norwalk United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona, where he was a bagpiper and a chanter unit member. Gil was a 50 year member of the Des Moines Consistory and the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, Southgate Masonic Lodge, where he was Past Master of the lodge. He was Past Worthy Patron of Southgate Order Eastern Star and Past Grand Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Iowa.
Gil enjoyed woodworking and cabinetry.
He is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Gil is preceded in death by his wife, of 61 years, Audrey (Pepin); his parents; brothers, Robert Mote and Hubert Mote; sisters, Reba Mote, Winifred Mote, Frances Smith and Rachel Hearn.
