Glenda’s Life Story
Glenda Lynne, the third of four children born to Raymond Carl and Hazel Lodema Schwartz, was born October 16, 1944 in Carroll, Iowa. She attended North High School and graduated in 1963. She met her first husband Danny Ray Hill downtown Des Moines, scooping the loop, at the age of 18. They were married and blessed with two children, Laurie and Troy.
When younger, Glenda enjoyed riding horses, going to sock hops, and going to the local ice cream parlor with her best friend, Linda. Glenda’s first job was at the Younkers downtown where she worked with her mother. This perhaps is what started her love affair of shopping!
In 1977, a guy (Larry) saw a girl (Glenda) at a bar in Norwalk and he could not take his eyes off her. They quickly fell in love and were married shortly thereafter in 1978 at their home in Norwalk, IA. Larry was married previously and had 2 children as well: Kathryn & Joe.

Glenda also enjoyed traveling. One of her favorite trips was to Mackinac Island where she went with her husband and grandchildren, Amanda & Garrett.
Glenda enjoyed taking her dog, Sarge, to the dog park and meeting up with her friends usually twice a day! She was an avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune and soap operas which included the “Young & the Restless” and “Bold and Beautiful”. Glenda loved to shop! She was constantly watching QVC and frequented Target and Marshalls. She always had an outfit or a toy ready for her grandbabies. She also enjoyed shopping for her home and was proud of how she had it decorated (and the many compliments she received). Despite repeated efforts to have her quit smoking, she held strong to her Pall Malls and could be found with one in hand on her deck soaking up sunshine and drinking her black coffee.
On Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 2020 Glenda, at the age of 75, died peacefully at Mercy Hospital being held by her granddaughters Amanda and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents; one stepdaughter, Kathryn Bowden in 2020; and three brothers, Gary, Gordon and Roger.
