The Life Story of
Joyce Marie Reed
Forever in our Hearts ~ 1941 to 2021
Joyce Reed, age 79, of Garden Grove, Iowa (formerly of Norwalk) peacefully passed on Wednesay, May 19th, 2021 at the Decatur County Hospital.
Joyce, the daughter of Orville and Armitta (Armstrong) Marshall was born on November 1, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from North High School. Joyce was united in marriage to her loving husband, Leonard Reed on February 20, 1960 and to this union were blessed with three children, Becky, Brenda, and Cliff.
Joyce and Leonard owned and operated Leonard Reed Concrete Construction for many years. While Leonard ran and operated the construction end of the business, Joyce was the bookkeeper, and kept everything in line. In her spare-time, when not caring for her family Joyce enjoyed making dolls and collecting bears. She liked to cook, bake, decorate cakes, and most of all making pies since the age of 5 years old; being one of the best bakers around. Working in her garden where she had a “green thumb” getting anything and everything to bloom including her nearly acre vegetable garden at her Norwalk farm; refinishing antique furniture; and attending craft shows and auctions. In addition, Joyce & Leonard loved to watch their horses race at Prairie Meadows along with many other racetracks across the United States. Her passion along with Leonard was raising foals to watch them grow to become racehorses. Joyce is a member of the Red Hat Society; and with her husband Leonard, were both inducted to the Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association Hall of Fame for their contribution, dedication, support & lifetime membership.
A Classy, Beautiful person, Joyce was always kind and nice to everyone. Joyce adored and loved her family who meant the world to her. She may be leaving this world but will remain in the hearts to all those who knew her, especially by her loving husband of 61 years, Leonard; daughters, Becky Reed and Brenda (Craig) Onstot; her sister, Karen Hessel; 11 grandchildren, Adam, Niccolas, Jerad, Ashley, Brandon, Dustin, Kevin, Kyle, Spencer, Allison and Mallorie; and 17 great-granchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Cliff; and siblings Trudy and Craig. Along with her beloved dog Buttons.
