Kenneth Essick, 100, of Norwalk passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2nd, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at O'Leary Celebration of Life Center, with a funeral service on Thursday, June 3rd at 9:30 a.m.at O'Leary's.
Kenneth Albert Essick, the son of Alonzo and Leona (Wycoff) Essick was born March 7, 1921. Ken graduated from Norwalk High School in 1941 and joined the Navy during World War II, obtaining the rank of 2nd Class Ordinance Mechanic.
He participated in a World War II Honor Flight to Washington DC on November 4, 2009.
Ken met Vivian Barkley and they were married June 25, 1949 in Grundy Center Iowa. They made their home in Norwalk where they raised three daughters, Linda, Donna and Debra. Ken worked as a truck driver for Burlington-Northern for 23 years before retiring in May 1979.
Ken loved woodworking—restoring and refinishing antique furniture, fishing, and family vacations. Memorable vacations with the family include Lost Island, Seattle, and the East Coast including New York and Niagara Falls. Ken and Vivian loved to travel and camp, and spent many years traveling to Texas. But most of all, Ken loved his wife and his family.
Ken, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alonzo, Clarence, Warren and Richard, and his sister, Louise
Ken is lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years, Vivian, daughters Linda (John) Woollums, Donna (Rick) Bussanmas and Debra (Pat) Scholer, six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and another one on the way.
