The Life Story of Kenneth J. Van Horn
Kenneth J. Van Horn, 64, of Norwalk, Iowa passed away at home on Monday, March 29, 2021.
Ken was born on May 3, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa, to Edward and Delores Van Horn. Upon graduating from Urbandale High School, Ken enlisted in the United States Army as a telecommunications specialist. Following three years of service, Ken received an honorable discharge. He then attended the Des Moines Area Community College and continued to work for Norstan Communications Inc.
In July of 1984 Ken met his wife Jane (Reising) and knew that she was the one right from the start. They married on August 31, 1985. Ken and Jane went on to have two children, Heather Marie and Nathaniel Robert.
Ken enjoyed fishing, with fond memories of trips to Canada with his father, father-in-law and son. He enjoyed watching a variety of sports including NASCAR, football, and hockey.
No one was ever surprised to hear Classic Rock turned up loud when coming to visit. Though, his wife eventually convinced him there were “acceptable” country musicians as well. In later years he most enjoyed spending time with his family and three grandchildren the most. His fondest memory was a ten-day trip to Washington, DC with the entire family visiting sites and playing bags.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Jane Van Horn (Norwalk), Heather (Andrew) Werning (Indianola), Nathaniel (Margeaux) Van Horn (Silver Spring, Maryland); three grandchildren- Victoria and Leon Werning, and Clara Van Horn. His mother, Delores Van Horn and two sisters LaDonna (Bruce) Elrod and LeAnn (Robert) Holtzbauer. Ken was preceded in death by his Father, Edward Van Horn.
