Lawrence Lewis Seid, 91, passed away at Independence Village Assisted Living on Monday, November 29, 2021. Larry was born April 16, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to Harry and Lefea (Farr) Seid. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School where he ran track, played the trombone in the band, sang in the Glee Club and dreamed of becoming the biggest farmer in Iowa. He married the love of his life Charlene (Kahler) on February 5, 1956 in Granger, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, Steve and Scott.
Larry served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed primarily in Nome, Alaska. He was a farmer and worked as a road grader operator for Polk County for 30 years. He was a member of the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club, loved the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs, but most of all, Larry loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his sons and their families.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; his parents, and all three of his sisters Lois, Pauline, and Norma and his brother, Wayne Willett. He is survived by his sons, Steve (Carol) of Des Moines and Scott (Kelli) of Verona, Wisconsin, grandchildren Nicole (Mike) Romey, Katie (Mike) Taylor, Sam Seid and Harry Seid; step-grandchildren, Matthew (Leah) Karns and Jacque (Ben) Butzke; great-grandchildren, Levi Taylor, Reuben, Jovie and Lincoln Butzke, Talon and Tyler Karns and an extended host of relatives and friends.
The family will greet friends from 9:00-11:00 am on Thursday, December 2nd at the Fort Des Moines Methodist Church in Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am also at the church. Lawrence will be laid to rest at Avon Cemetery following the service.
Memorials in Lawrence’s name may be made to the Indianola American Legion Post 165 or Lincoln High School.
