Marcelina “Oming” Madriaga Colorado transitioned peacefully to her next life on December 5, 2021, at the age of 95. Marcelina was born in the Philippines on November 18, 1926, the youngest of eight children, to Santiago and Alexandra Madriaga.
After graduating from high school, Marcelina attended a dressmaking school and graduated as valedictorian. She was known for making wedding dresses and clergy robes. She used her sewing to help support her family, and also taught a dressmaking class which helped poor young women earn a living.
Marcelina was married to Isaac Colorado, who was a United Methodist pastor. She worked with her husband in the church – going with him on pastoral visitations, arranging flowers on the church altar every Sunday, and participating in women’s activities. As a couple, they were known for their singing in church worship services and small gatherings.
Together, Isaac and Marcelina had seven children: Bernie (Linda), Thelma (Samuel), Ramsay (Freda), Ray (Lura), George (Luz), Moody (Beth), and Joseph (Judy). They have 19 grandchildren: Neil (Andrea) , Lynlyn (Phil), Dale (Jen), Jennifer, Dennis, Ramsay, Jr (Kath)., Shannah (Pierre), Abigail, Alex (Cristal), Dexter, Maxwell, Hexell, Alay, Ymyr, Gem, John, Josh (Phoebe), Joanna, and Jaiden; and 11 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Sydney, Caleb, Rebecca, Isaiah, Maya, Hannah, Joseph Patrick and 3 more. Marcelina was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, daughter Thelma, and daughter-in law Beth.
Visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on December 11 at O’Leary Funeral Home, 1020 Main St., Norwalk, Iowa. A funeral service will be held on December 12, 2:00 pm at Linn Grove United Methodist Church, 7483 50th Ave, Prole, Iowa led by her sons, Rev. Dr. Moody Colorado and Rev. Bernie Colorado. Burial at Norwalk Cemetery will follow the service.
