Life Story of Michael Cutwright
Michael (Mike) Cutwright of Des Moines passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Methodist Hospital at the age of 42. Mike was born to Mifflin and Beth Cutwright of Des Moines in 1979 at Methodist Hospital, where Mifflin worked at the time. He was the oldest of two children and graduated from North High School, Class of ’97. In 1999, Mike married the love of his life, Joyce A. Loghry. They were blessed with two sons, Storm and Kane.
Growing up, Michael spent most of his time playing video games and enjoying Boy Scouts (his mother playing a highly active volunteer role within Mike’s scouting adventures). Michael loved his church and youth group most when in High School, attending many functions and conventions in other states. Michael met Joyce the summer of ’94 while both worked at Adventureland. Just four years later, July of ’98, they began dating, never to truly part. Mike worked many jobs finally landing with Securitas, at Firestone Tires, for the last six years. Mike worked his way up the ladder to Account Manager and loved his job.
Michael enjoyed playing video games, watching his favorite tv shows, working on his vehicles and spending time with his wife, boys, fur daughters and, most recently, his fur granddaughter. Mike was a hardworking man and gave his all to his work, family and friends. Always the jokester, Michael was quick witted and knew exactly when to insert his humor. He frustrated his parents and his teachers with his ornery streak and that only grew with age. If there was laughter to be had, Michael was there in the thick of it! He worked along side his brother-in-law, Erik, at Target and they played off each other to share the spotlight of fun, never a dull moment. (Including taking turns hiding in the clothing racks and stealing naps in the bathroom.) Mike met his best friend, Ron, when Ron came to his first family Christmas with Mike’s cousin. No one knew how this encounter would change both their lives. They were besties for the resties in every sense of that term. Through jokes, marriages, babies, divorces and different jobs, Mike and Ron were inseparable. Mike’s deepest love was seen in his love for Joyce. She had his heart from the word go and could do no wrong in his eyes. She and Mike’s boys brought more joy to Michael than anyone or anything in this world. He would have given them the world if he could.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandfathers Richard Essick and Mifflin Cutwright Sr; his step grandmother, Millicent Cutwright; his parents, Mifflin and Beth (Essick) Cutwright; uncles, John and Dennis Essick; and nephew, Tristan Kern.
Michael is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Storm and Kane; sister, Amanda (Erik) Purscell; grandmother, Mary (Dillard) Essick of Indianola; in-laws, Orville and Ramona (Blair) Loghry; uncles, Bill (Linda) and Jim Essick; nephews, Bradon Danielson, Noah Purscell, Preston Kern and Clifford Loghry Jr; nieces, Gabby Danielson, Kelsi Loghry, Cheyane Kern, Claire Purscell, and Serenity Loghry; best friend, Ronny Baumert; and a host of extended family and friends.
Michael loved life, his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh. Lay your sweet head to rest, big brother, now’s your time of peace.
