The Life Story of Mark Rogers
Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:8 ESV
From life’s first cry May 24, 1961 until final breath March 28, 2021. Mark Anthony Rogers was born to his parents, Joseph and Delores Rogers.
He was educated in the Newark and East Orange Public School systems, in New Jersey. While attending East Orange High School, he showed dedication for the sport he loved, and exemplified leadership at an early age, serving as captain of the E.O. Panthers football team during his senior year. Little did he know, his #1 fan was his secret admirer and personal cheerleader, Miss Prestina Strickland. Although they knew each other in high school, their friendship blossomed afterwards in 1981 and they were married on March 27, 1982. They just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary the day before the Lord called him home. From this union, they were blessed with three children: Mark Anthony, Delores Barbara, and Patrice Antoinette, 5 grandchildren: Elijah, Yazmine, Nylah, Shepherd, Cheyenne, and 1 great-grandchild, Reign. Mark’s devotion to his family was very near and dear to his heart. He worked diligently to serve and provide for his family, and was a great example of a husband and a father to many.
In 1986, he put his faith in Jesus Christ, as his Lord and Savior. As he grew in his obedience and love for the Word of God, Mark served as: a Trustee, a Sunday School Teacher, a Sunday School Superintendent, a leader in the men’s auxiliary and a Bible Study leader. It was evident in Mark’s life that he loved the Word of God. A pivotal moment in Mark’s life, is when he was selected as 1 of 60 students (out of 1,000 applicants) to attend The Master's Seminary in Sun Valley, California from 2013-2015 based on his character and service in church.
Mark leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: his wife, Prestina Rogers; his mother-in-law, Florida Strickland; his children, Mark Rogers II, Barbara Rogers, Patrice (Mitchell) McClure; his grandchildren; his siblings, Joseph, Linda, and Doug (Mia) Rogers; his brother and sister-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Taylor Satterwhite and Margaret Fuller; his parents Joseph and Delores Rogers; 4 siblings Joanne, Margaret, Warren, and Wanda Rogers; and his father-in-law William J. Strickland. Although Mark Anthony Rogers will be greatly missed, we are grateful that God loaned him to us here on earth, and praise God that he has been promoted to be with his Father in glory forever!
