Peggy’s Life Story

Peggy Marie, the daughter of Arden Royal and Evelyn Elizabeth (Farnsley) Miller, was born on April 13, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa.  Growing up in the Norwalk community she enjoyed dance lessons and playing six-on-six basketball; she graduated from Norwalk High School with the Class of 1961.  It was during here last year of school that she met Wayne Hamaker Clark of Des Moines.  They both fell in love and were married a couple of years later at the Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church on October 6, 1963.   To this union they had two children Brenda and Tim.  They made their home on Wayne’s family’s century farm just southwest of the Des Moines Airport.  In 1997 they were forced to move from their home when the land was confiscated by the city of Des Moines for airport expansion.  Today the end of runway 23 and the hillside meadow is all that is left of their farm.  For the past 24 years they made their home just north of New Virginia, Iowa.

Peggy worked for a short time at Bishop’s Restaurant on Des Moines’ southside.  She then went to work for Hartford Insurance and later Farmland Insurance [that later merged with Nationwide] where she retired in 2005 as an underwriting assistant. Peggy enjoyed a wide variety of activities such as dance, modeling, mowing the yard, cooking fudge, attending to her large flower beds, growing vegetables, bird watching and decorating.  She loved to decorate the house for each of the holidays (Valentine, St. Patrick, Easter, Independence, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).  She genuinely loved her husband, children, and was a doting grandmother to Ryan, Justin, Marit and Austin.

On Wednesday afternoon, June 30, 2021, Peggy passed peacefully with family at her side following a lengthy battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Brenda Hovey on January 7, 2019; and a brother, Jerry Miller in 2004.

She will certainly be missed by all who knew her and her legacy will be continued by her husband, Wayne; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Penny Clark; a son-in-law, Jeff Hovey; a granddaughter, Marit Hovey; three grandsons, Ryan and Justin Hovey and Austin Clark; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Bob Carroll of Norwalk; and a sister-in-law, Joan Miller of Norwalk.
