Roger James Ballard, age 83, of Norwalk, was called home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 20, 2021.
Roger was born January 27, 1938, and married the love of his life, Mary, who preceded him in death. They had four awesome children, Tom, Doug, Lori, and Tim.
Together, Roger and Mary enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. Roger played the dulcimer and was known to pick up his ukulele now and then, too! He enjoyed listening to music as well as making music of his own. Roger was proud of his military service in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the American Legion Post 562 in Cumming for 52 years, where he was a member of the Honor Guard.
He retired from the Meredith Corporation, where he was a true craftsman and built sets for the Better Homes & Gardens Magazine. In retirement, he and Mary spent the winters in Arizona with a community of friends and participated in the Workcamper program where their favorite activity was to work an enormous “pumpkin patch” fall festival in California. He wore his orange worn and faded pumpkin patch polo proudly! It was hard work and long days, but Roger wasn’t one to spend his retirement relaxing! Neighbors, family, and friends can attest to the fact that Roger was always out “tinkering” in his yard and garage…there was always something that just needed to be done!
Roger was devoted to his family, and is survived by his four children, Tom (Linda), Doug (Kathy), Lori (Paul), Tim (Donna), 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
