Russell Gene McMillin, age 79, of Norwalk died peacefully at home on Friday, May 29, 2020.
A military graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 29th at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Parkway, Adel, IA 50003. Family and Friends are asked to meet at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery office parking area no later than 12:25 p.m. [Please do not go to the shelter prior to the family escort vehicle]
A reception at Russell and Susan's home in Norwalk will be held following the service. Directions will be made available the day of the service.

Russell’s Life Story
Russell Gene, the son of Wesley Paul and Frances Eva (Ossman) McMillin, was born on October 13, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He graduated from Bloomfield High school with the Class of 1958. While in school he learned to play the trumpet and was active in marching and concert band. He met Susan Greene at the West Grove United Methodist Church while attending the youth group there. They were married September 15, 1962 at the church where they met; two weeks before Russell was deployed to his Germany with the United States Air Force. During his time there he worked in Wasswerkuppe, Kaiserlantern, and Gieblestadt where he kept the radar equipment/sites and minute man missles cooled. Prior to his honorable discharge in 1966 he was stationed in North Dakota at Grand Forks AFB; where he performed service maintenance on refrigeration and cooling machines.
Russell and Susan owned M.R.S. Heating and Air Conditioning for nearly 30 years. During this time he also farmed and worked at Winger Mechanical in Ottumwa. In 2002 they moved to Norwalk, IA where he worked at The Waldinger Corporation until his retirement from his HVAC career on May 14, 2008. He and Susan then went to work as security guards for PerMar Security until 2018 when Russell was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
Russell enjoyed hunting and fishing, wood working, vegetable gardening. He was a wonderful and supportive husband, father and grandfather. With the love and care of his wife these last couple of years; he was able to live out his life at home.
On Friday morning, May 29, 2020, with his wife and children at his side Russell died at his home in Norwalk. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Jim, Bill, George Harrison.
Those to left to celebrate and honor Russell’s life are his wife of nearly 58 years, Susan; two children, Sandra Klabunde of Coon Rapids, MN; and Phillip McMillin (Sheri Burrows) of Bloomfield, IA; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Joe) Feges and their son, Logan Varno, and Brittany Klabunde (Caleb Shiltz) and their two sons, Liam and Colin.
