Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 1 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk, with a visitation Tuesday, November 30 from 4:00-6:00 pm at O'Leary Celebration of Life Center.  A short service will begin at 6:00 pm.

Rusty Michael Doll, age 40, passed away peacefully with family at his side on November 22, 2021.

Rusty was born to Fran Doll and Karen (Saunders) on November 12, 1981 in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Cumming, IA with his brothers Ryan and Rodney (twin) and sister Lori.  He attended Norwalk Schools, graduating with the class of 2000.  He joined the Navy after high school, attending basic military training in Illinois, and then was assigned to US Marines, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California working as a Religious Program Specialist. He deployed to several locations in the Pacific Rim, and served one tour in Iraq where he was a part of the main effort during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003. Rusty was eventually transferred to Naval Air Station Lakehurst New Jersey where he separated after honorably serving seven years in the US Navy. He worked for the State of New Jersey for 13 years serving persons with physical, developmental and mental disabilities.  Rusty studied at Thomas Edison State University and received his undergraduate degree in History.  He was a member of the Cumming American Legion Post 562 for 21 years. 

Rusty will be lovingly remembered by his daughter; Jamie, his step-daughters; Samantha and Alexandra and their mother Pamela, his parents; Fran Doll and Karen (Ron) Krebs, his siblings; Ryan (Rebecca) Doll, Rodney (Justin) Doll and Lori (Dan) Buske, nieces and nephews; Paisley, Lawson and Avrey, his step grandkids, his dog; Bella, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Uncle Virgil, Uncle Harold and brothers and sisters in arms.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Cumming American Legion Post 562.
